UK Election Results In – Hung Parliament

UK General election results are showing the UK will have its first hung parliament since 1974, the results in so far are as follows:

Labour – 258

Conservatives – 306

Lib Dem’s – 57

Although the Conservatives have the highest number of seats it falls under UK convention for the labour party as the incumbent to try to form a government, this could be done with a partnership with the Lib Dem’s which would make them the largest party.

The conservatives have indicated that they would like to form a minority government rather than for a formal coalition.

My view will be that conservatives will form a minority government but there will be another election called within 6 months. However there is already rumbling in the conservative party about how the campaign was run and we will see what happens with these rumblings.

The Labour party in my view will see Gordon Brown standing down and a new leader taking over this may also be a requirement if they try to form a minority coalition.

We will see what happens today which may change the outlook.
