Core Strategy

The City Corporation is drawing up a new plan to guide the future development of the City of London. The new plan is called the Local Development Framework (LDF) and the most important part of it is the Core Strategy. The Core Strategy will set out the vision and key policies for planning the City.

We are consulting the public throughout the preparation of the Core Strategy. The first stage of consultation took place during Summer 2006, when we asked the public what they thought were the main planning issues facing the City and their views on alternative options for dealing with these issues.

The alternative options were reviewed in the light of the comments made and Preferred Options selected.  The Preferred Options were published for a second stage of consultation during April - May 2007.

Consultation on the Draft Core Strategy was undertaken between 9 November and 21 December 2009.  The responses are currently being considered and a final version of the Core Strategy is being prepared.

The Core Strategy is also supported by an Evidence Base, Core Strategy Sustainability Appraisal, Equalities Impact Assessment, Infrastructure Delivery Plan and Infrastructure framework.

The Core Strategy will be published for a last stage of consultation in September 2010. The Core Strategy and representations made on it will be considered by an independent planning inspector at a Public Examination to be held early in 2011. The inspector will issue a report following the examination and it is expected that the Core Strategy will be adopted later in 2011.
