BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The future of campus dining at Bowling Green State University started to take shape Thursday morning during a groundbreaking ceremony for the new McDonald Dining Center.

The 30,000-square-foot facility is being planned to achieve Leadership in Energy in Design certification and set a standard for campus dining in the United States, officials said. The center will be located on the northeast corner of Thurstin Avenue and Ridge Street.

BGSU President Carol Cartwright said the center has been designed “to reduce costs and improve quality” through a public-private partnership.

BGSU is working on the project with Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services, with which it contracted a year ago to operate dining services on campus. She said the center is intended to serve the western end of the campus but is expected “to be a destination for the entire campus and the community.”
