How do I get an application?

Download and print the application from our home page, or send a written request to the Board's office, a fee is not required.


When are the filing deadlines and fees?

  • Applications filed on or before March 15th require a $500 fee
  • Applications filed after March 15 but on or before April 15 require a $600 filing fee.
ALL FEES MUST BE PAID BY CERTIFIED CHECK OR OTHER TYPE OF GUARANTEED PAYMENT



What is the date and location of the 2009 exam?

The exam will be administered on July 27, 28, and 29, 2009. The exam is administered at Widener University School of Law.
There is not a February administration.


What is the format of the exam?

The exam is administered over two and one half days. The essay portion of the exam will be administered on Monday (8 essay questions) and Tuesday morning (2 MPT's). The MBE is administered on Wednesday.


What documents need to be filed with a bar application?

Applicants must send:

  1. two passport photos (taken within last six months)
  2. college and law school transcripts
  3. law school application
  4. other bar applications
  5. good standing certificates from other states admitted
  6. preceptor certificate
  7. Form A and B reference letters

    and other documents as required.
Documents can be sent directly to the Board's office even before an application is filed. The preceptor certificate and final law school transcript are due on or before July 1.


Does Delaware have reciprocity?

Delaware does not have reciprocity of any kind with any other state. To be admitted to the Delaware Bar, an applicant must take the exam, including the MBE, in Delaware. MBE results secured in conjunction with the administration of the bar examination in another state are not accepted.


What are the requirements to be admitted to the Delaware Bar?

An applicants must have graduated from an ABA approved law school. Applicants must be filed timely and approved by the Board to sit for the exam. A weighted combined score of 145 is required on the essays and MBE. An applicant must also pass the MPRE (taken separately from the July examination) with a scaled score of 85. An applicant must also complete the clerkship requirement (see form and Rules) and attend the two-day Pre-Admission Conference before admission.
