'Poetry' wins best film at 47th Daejong Film Awards

MANILA, Philippines — “Poetry”, which won the best screenplay at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, was adjudged as the best film in the 47th Daejong Film Awards held on Oct. 29 at Kyunghee University Hall of Peace.

The awarding ceremony drew Korea’s brightest stars including Won Bin, Oh Ji Ho, and Kim Yun Jin. K-pop singers Girls Generation and 2PM also performed at the event.

“Poetry” is a story of an old woman who is raising her grandson all by herself. She discovers that her grandson was involved in attacking a student who committed suicide. She enrolls in a poetry class while dealing with her personal problems.

The film edged out “Bedevilled,” “The Secret Reunion,” “The Housemaid,” “I Saw the Devil,” “Moss,” “The Man From Nowhere,” “A Barefoot Dream” and “Harmony” for the award.

“Poetry” stars Yun Jeong Hee bagged the best actress award and Kim Hui-Ra won the best supporting actor award in a tie with Song Sae Byeok of “The Servant”. The film also won best screenplay.

Korean hottie actor Won Bin won the best actor award for his role in “The Man From Nowhere” while the best supporting actress award went to Yun Yeo-Jong of “The Housemaid.”

Kang Woo-Suk of “Moss” won as best director.

The best new actor award went to Jeong-woo of “Wish” while Lee Min-Jung won as best new actress for “Cyrano Agency.”

K-pop boy band Big Bang member T.O.P won the Korean Wave Popularity Award.

Won Bin and Lee Min-Jung also bagged the popularity awards.

Best Lighting - Oh Seung-Chul - "I Saw the Devil"

Best Art Design - Jo Sung-Won - "Moss"

Best Sound Effects - Oh Se-Jin, Kim Suk-Jin - "Moss"

Best Visual Effects - Jeong Do-An - "The Man From Nowhere"

Best Costume Design - Jeong Kyung-Hee - "The Servant"

Achievement Award - Choi Eun-Hee
