Ding ends Bingham hopes in decider
Ding Junhui won the final four frames of the match to overcome Stuart Bingham 13-12 in the last 16 of the World Championship at the Crucible.
The result was a double blow for Bingham with defeat costing him a place in the top 16 at the outset of next season.
Stephen Hendry is now set to start the season in the top 16 if he decides to continue playing.
The seven-times champion confessed that he was considering his future after losing 13-4 to Mark Selby earlier in the day.
Ding will face Selby in the last eight, but Bingham will wonder how the chance of victory escaped his grasp. He began the third session leading 9-7 and extended that lead to 12-9 aided by breaks of 101 and 134.
Ding produced the form that saw him win the Masters in January by reeling off three frames to level at 12-12 with breaks of 92, 114 and 58.
Bingham was first among the balls in the deciding frame, but ran out of position on a break of 30 when he seemed likely to make a match-winning contribution.
Good fortune smiled on Ding in the closing stages of the frame as he got the better of the tactical exchanges after a run of 55 to end Bingham's hopes at the tournament.
The Chinese player will play his opening session against Selby at 2.30pm on Tuesday.
Second session report
Stuart Bingham leads Ding Junhui 9-7 in the second round of the World Championship at the Crucible in Sheffield.
Bingham maintained a two-frame lead over Ding after a see-saw session that both players failed to take control of.
Ding was far from his best all evening and needed a number of chances to take a scrappy first frame of the evening.
The 24-year-old from China made a string of errors after that and Bingham kept his composure to reel off three consecutive frames to lead 8-4.
Cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd Ding pulled back within two frames with a 93 and a clearance to the pink to steal in frame 14.
The roles were reversed as Bingham fought back a 61-point deficit to clinch the next frame on the pink. But Ding finished in some style with a 91 to stay within two frames.
Play resumes at 7pm on Monday.
First session report
Stuart Bingham leads Ding Junhui 5-3 in the second round of the World Championship at the Crucible in Sheffield.
Bingham was the more consistent player and deservedly came off the better against an under-par Ding after the first session.
Bingham got off to the best possible start to pinch the opening frame with a clinical clearance on the colours as Ding struggled to settle.
A run of 59 gave the Basildon player a two-frame advantage which soon became three with another steal on the colours.
Ding showed signs of improvement with a 67 in the next but Bingham missed a great chance to steal when gifted a free-ball. When the Englishman missed and left a red on, Ding was able to finish off and reduce the deficit at the interval.
The 34-year-old from Essex took his chances with another solid frame to make it 4-2.
Neither player was able to take a frame in a single visit as chances fell to both but a 48 helped Ding on the way to taking frame seven.
But Bingham took a 5-3 lead into the evening session as the pattern of the match continued with Bingham clinching the frame on the colours with a 58.
Play resumes at 7pm.

I would like to see Ding go all the way but i don't see him going past Selby. He is playing like rubbish, he is missing very easy balls.
For some reason he always fails to reach top form in the WC..
Well, it was either Ding or Bing...
Anyway, What a brilliant game of snooker.
Ding donged Bingham
干你娘
肏你妈
Well done Ding! You had me on the edge of my seat there.
I logged in and wanted to make a comment about a brilliant game but this freak is basically cyber-stalking me. Well, let's go. I'm game. I'll give it all back to you, you freaky weirdo! Tell your mum I want my wallet back. Filthy h ooker.
He started it. But if he wants to go, I'll keep this going as long as he wants.
David's mom is a milf. She has a sweet tooth though. She loves creampies. She loves her jewellery too. Very fond of pearl necklaces. Is'nt she David? Very expensive lady. Loves to get a FACIAL done every now and then.
just give up all the backbiting and enjoy the skills all players bring to the game of snooker
Stop using multiple identities mate. I know who you are and I know your ma very well. Intimately.
Yes David. If you say so. I'll never do your mother in though. I've got too much of a good thing going with her. MILF!
Good Headline!
Carnak my advice would be never to cross Dizzy as he did his mother in!
Ding is tactically naive and has thrown away countless 50-60 point leads. He doesn't deserve to win and like a mug I bet him for the title!
I have met Ding, he isn't a boring robot at all. He just focuses on his game and shows little emotion at the table. Away from the table he is a great ambassador for snooker being polite, friendly and approachable.
Carnak. I see your dislike of Non-English players extends beyond Australians. You're becoming a parody of yourself. Get a grip. Snooker is trying to widen it's appeal not limit it to boring journeymen like Bingham. He may smile but what's he won compared with Ding? Bingham may cause an upset but he has no chance of getting any further. This is a man whose best career finish in a ranking event is a quarter-final. He's hardly going to win the world championships.
Stuart is much Advanced than last session but needs more calming I think ( too much furious)...wish him the best
Come on Ding!
