Indie Art Capital = It’s Official
So, although I haven’t talked much about what I’ve been doing so far with the IAC Initiative…I can, finally, reveal some of it.
Monday, December 10th, at the 5:00 City Council Meeting…
The Columbus City Council will be adopting a Resolution to officially declare Columbus as the Independent Art Capital of the World. The resolution is sponsored by Mary Ellen O’Shaughnessy, with a lot of hard work from Lelia Cady, her legislative analyst.
I have to tell you, walking the corridors of City Hall today…and seeing multiple cutouts of the IAC logo from the website on doors and bulletin boards, was simply amazing! As I was introduced around, I don’t think anyone needed an explanation as to what we were talking about…they knew, even if they didn’t know the specifics, what the IAC was.
There’s a lot more to come, but this is the first in the line of announcements and the most official of them, so I’m pretty excited!
p.s. Sorry Dan, I couldn’t get the shirts first, but I’ll grab them from you this week still and we can present them at the actual meeting.

I’m outed on CU as that YouTube guy? I’m calling my lawyer.
I’ll be on vacation on that Monday (figures!). There’ll be a presentation!? Dang. Several others can easily stick it on YouTube. Press?

Yeah, apparently I’ll speak (or whoever…), there can be a few of us up at the actual podium, then Councilwoman O’Shaughnessy will hit some speaking points as well, followed by a reading of the actual resolution, and then presentation of the big formal scroll like thing :)
it is televised, on one of those CSpan type deals, but we’ll get a DVD too.

BTW guys, this goes hand in hand with some other really amazing stuff, more tangible things actually benefitting the artists, but I’m just not to the point I can put them out there yet.

A great display of how it’s about each of us doing our awesome part in our own unique way.
Truly inspiring.
That’s the spirit of this whole thing. And I know some of Core’s forthcoming details and they are awesome too.
:D
And each of us can do something equally awesome and fulfill on the promise of what it means to live in and create Columbus as the Indie Art Capital of the World.

I’m impressed (I did not say surprised) by having such a forward thinking ardent supporter of the arts on City Council. Gives me hope.
Maryellen O’Shaughnessy in case you would like a look. Take time to meet all your city council members while you are there.

Make no mistake too, Lelia is a huge supporter of the arts. She had quietly attended the Junctionview meeting, and has spent time as a collector and even dealer here in town.
It’s fantastic to have that kind of appreciation in those positions!

Indeed. I have spoken to Lelia on several occasions about this.
Her contribution was HUGE- not intended as an oversight. :D
