BGSU1000 University Seminar

BGeXperience offers the highly-rated BGSU 1000 University Seminar – a three-credit-hour, semester-long course specifically designed to introduce first-year students to collegiate learning. This course emphasizes the University Learning Outcomes, project-based learning, transition topics and activities, and developmental e-portfolios.

While not mandatory, this course provides an academic foundation that fosters student achievement and personal growth through the integration of curricular and co-curricular learning. Students build networks with faculty, staff, and peers that encourage a successful transition to college life.

While courses are offered within a variety of academic areas, all assignments and projects in BGSU 1000 are designed to help students:

  • develop critical and constructive thinking skills
  • become better communicators
  • understand the values that support a community of learners
  • be challenged to think about the role and responsibilities of a college student
  • become involved in co-curricular learning opportunities

BGSU 1000 gives students the tools necessary to navigate the college environment and assemble resources. Throughout the semester, students learn about the offices and areas that support progress with study skills, research, career decisions, writing, wellness, well-being, leadership and math skills among others.

"College is a lot different from high school, and I have done well with the transition if it hadn’t been for this class. The learning outcomes are something I’m going to use through the rest of my college career and maybe even further." — BGSU 1000 student
