when: Daily; not Mon
where: Teatro San Carlo

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Teatro San Carlo is Italy's oldest opera house and has been described as the world's most beautiful theatre. This great testimony to the exuberant, passionate city of Naples hosts opera, ballet, classical concerts and comic operettas.

Barring the reconstruction and the 1872-1874 economic crisis, Teatro San Carlo has not interrupted its seasons in almost three centuries.

Today it still bustles with activity hosting operas from December to June. Besides staging frequent operas, ballets and concerts, it is also involved in several projects, including the reintroduction of operatic masterpieces from the 19th century and the ongoing attempt to restore the 18th-century opera buffa.

The theatre is open for guided tours, except when performances and rehearsals are in progress. Check the website for more details.
