Angels' first baseman Kendry Morales Thursday was named the American League Player of the Month for August in an announcement by Major League Baseball.

Last month, Angels' outfielder Bobby Abreu was selected as the A.L. Player of the Month for July. This is the first time any club has had consecutive monthly award winners since Rangers' outfielder Josh Hamilton won in both April and May of 2008.

Morales, 26, batted.385 (42/109) with 22 runs scored, eight doubles, 10 home runs and 33 RBI in 28 games last month. He registered a Major League-leading .734 slugging percentage and a .409 on-base percentage. Morales set a new club record for RBI in the month of August (previously held by Bobby Bonds, 31 in 1977). He was one RBI shy of the franchise record for any month.

Morales is hitting .313 (146/466) with 73 runs scored, 37 doubles, two triples, 30 home runs and 94 RBI in 124 games this season. He currently ranks second in the A.L. in slugging percentage (.594) and extra-base hits (69). Morales is also among the league leaders in average (T9th), home runs (T5th), RBI (T4th), total bases (177, T4th), doubles (8th), and average with RISP (.336, 7th).

This marks the first A.L. Player of the Month honor for Morales, who was named the A.L. Player of the Week for the period ending Aug. 2. The Angels had never won the award two months in a row.
