Ogden River Parkway

Ogden is nestled against the Wasatch Mountains, with fantastic views of the Great Salt Lake located to the west. The Ogden and Weber Rivers flow through the city on their way to the Great Salt Lake. The city is the largest of 14 cities located in Weber County.

Geography

Elevations in Ogden range between 4,300 and 5,200 feet above sea level, with local mountains soaring to 9,500 feet. Ogden enjoys four distinct seasons. Temperatures average in the mid-80s during July, the hottest month of the year. January, the coolest month, has average temperatures in the mid-20s.

Population

Ogden has a population of 82,702 with a median age of 28.6 years and an average household of 2.72 persons.   Downtown Ogden has daytime population of 8,500, and there are over 114,500 people living within a 10 minute drive of downtown. Population for the State of Utah sits at over 2.5 million, with well over half of the State's population residing along the Wasatch Front.

Ethnic and racial minorities make up over 20% of Ogden's population, the largest minority group being Hispanic, followed by African Americans, Asians, American Indian/Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander.

Employment & Industry

Business Depot Ogden

Ogden is the center for business and government in Weber County and for much of northern Utah. Employment continues to be on the rise, with Ogden being ranked #10 in the nation for jobs created in 2008. It's no wonder that Ogden's employers, from smallest to largest, soon realize that big city amenities coupled with proximity to the outdoors and an active lifestyle gives them much to offer their customers as well as their workforce.

Ogden hosts a variety of office spaces from older, historic buildings, to new "Class A" office buildings. The Ogden/Weber County area is also home to three major industrial parks and several other industrial locations.  The Business Depot Ogden (BDO) is a former U.S. Army defense depot. This 1,128-acre installation, transferred to Ogden in the recent base realignment and closure process, contains five million square feet of space with retail frontage, warehouse (existing and new) and industrial space available.  BDO is served by rail and all utilities are available, including fiber optics.  Business Depot Ogden remains a tremendous re-settlement or expansion opportunity for large and small corporations.

Weber State University , with an on-campus enrollment of 18,000 students, is located on Ogden's east bench and offers a variety of advanced degrees to its students. 52.8% of Ogden's population have some college or higher degree of education.  Branches of Utah State University and the University of Phoenix are also located in the city, and professional and technical training is available at the College of Applied Technology and other private institutions.

Strategically located for highway, rail and air access within the region and the nation, Ogden is situated at the crossroads of the CANAMEX shipping corridor. Interstate 15 and Interstate 84 intersect in Ogden providing tremendous access to the western United States.  The Ogden-Hinckley Airport is the second largest airport in Utah, with the Salt Lake International Airport being just a 40-minute drive south.  Ogden is also the historic home of the transcontinental railroad, and continues to be a national hub for east-west rail traffic.  State transportation services are provided by the Utah Transit Authority, which offers commuter rail and bus services throughout Ogden and all along the Wasatch Front.
