2005 KBS New Drama for Children

This new drama for children invites our young viewers to the world of magic and fantasy of fairy tales.

The story revolves around three main characters: magic boy-warriors Mir (Yoo Seung-ho) and Gaon (Lee Min-ho), who fight with the evil world, and magic girl-warrior Ara, who lives in the human world unaware of her existence. The role of Mir, meaning “dragon” in pure Korean, is played by Yoo Seung-ho, who showed off his outstanding acting skills in the movie “The Way Home” (which drew 4.2 million viewers nationwide and won the Jury’s Award in the Best New Director category at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain and Best Picture Award in the full-length film category at the Vladivostok International Film Festival) and KBS weekend miniseries “Precious Family,” in which he played an autistic kid Jun-yi. The role of Gaon, meaning “the center of the world,” is played by Lee Min-ho. Finally, the role of Ara, meaning “sea,” is played by child-actress Choi Ji-yeon.

A Sequel to a Popular Drama for Children

“Magic Warriors Mir & Gaon” is based on one of the previous popular child dramas, “Magic Kid Masuri,” which was put off the air a year ago when it was in the zenith of its popularity. At the time, “Magic Kid Masuri” recorded viewer ratings of 10 percent, which is quite unusual for a child drama, and even a musical was produced based on its story. Such characters as Param (Kim Sung-kyum) and Kang-ho (Ko Du-ok) from the magic world, who appear in the first episode of “Magic Warriors Mir & Gaon,” and Jangmi (Park Hyung-seon), who will continually appear in other episodes as well, all appeared in “Magic Kid Masuri.”

Mir and Gaon came into the world of humans with a mission to find a girl-warrior. They make a family with White Rose and Mapae from “Magic Kid Masuri” and disguise themselves as humans, while the rest of the warriors embark on looking for a girl-warrior. All magic warriors have their unique weapons. Three magic weapons -- Mir’s magic yoyo, Gaon’s magic coin and soon-to-be-found girl-warrior’s magic gum – can produce enormous power when gathered in one place. But the king of the evil world seeks to destroy magic warriors with the help of evil characters from fairy tales and cartoon movies, such as Captain Hook from “Peter Pan,” Queen from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and Mushroom from “Paul in Wonderland.” The story of this drama takes an interesting turn when these evil characters come to the human world.
