Galina Efremenko (Maniachenko) was a successful junior pair skater, winning the bronze medal with Evgeni
Gilgurski at the 1994 Junior World Championships. In 1995, she was severly injured in practice when her partner
hit her in the face with his blade during a side by side camel spin. Efremenko retired from skating for one and a
half years and then decided to come back as a single skater. Galina got married to Mikhail Efremenko in summer
2005. Her husband's brother Andrei married Galina's teammate Elena Liashenko.
