On 15 May, Alfred Friedrich Flender founded a company for the manufacture and sales of wooden pulleys in Duesseldorf-Reisholz under the name A. Friedr. Flender & Co. |
1910 |
Flender merged with Diekmann & Tangerding, an engineering works and iron foundry in Bocholt; thus, Flender was in a position to offer wooden and cast iron pulleys including necessary transmission parts. |
1916 |
A merger followed with Hesselbein & Reygers, also an engineering works and foundry in Bocholt. |
1927 |
With the first Flender-Variators, the manufacturing of gear units was started in Bocholt. |

The manufacture of wooden pulleys in D�sseldorf-Reisholz was given up and the factory sold to the neighbour Henkel & Cie. |

The founder of the company, Dr. h.c. A. Friedr. Flender died on 27 August. His son, Dipl.-Ing. Alfred Friedrich Flender, took over the undivided responsibility. |

In the course of the Second World War, the manufacturing facilities in Bocholt were destroyed to a large extent. In September, manufacture was started again on a very small scale. |

The company was converted into a partnership. A committee of three took over the business management. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Alfred Friedrich Flender assumed the chair of the newly founded partnership committee. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Alfred Friedrich Flender died on 17 November. |

On 5th November, the Himmelwerke in T�bingen were taken over from the Bauknecht bankruptcy. |
1986 |
A. Friedr. Flender GmbH & Co. KG was converted into a public limited company. The HDI group increased its share to 20%, the Commerzbank acquired 19%, and the Westdeutsche Genossenschaftszentralbank took over 10%. |
1990 |
In July, more than 95% of A. Friedr. Flender AG passed into the possession of Deutsche Babcock AG, Oberhausen. Flender � as the first West German company � took over a company in the former East German states: the Getriebewerk Penig in Saxony. |

On 4th December, A. Friedr. Flender AG quoted on the Stock Exchange. |

Acquisition of Harlass-Guss GmbH in Wittgensdorf / Saxony as a basis for the provision of castings for the own demand. |

Flender sold FAL (Flender ATB-Loher Antriebstechnik GmbH) in Welzheim. On 1 March, Flender took over the marine gearbox and bearing product divisions from Lohmann & Stolterfoth GmbH. It was decided that an assembly plant should be built on a site of Babcock Borsig AG in Voerde-Friedrichsfeld near Wesel. |

Babcock Borsig AG sold all its shares in A. Friedr. Flender AG to a holding company of Citycorp. Venture Capital / London. |

On 11 May, the new Flender assembly plant in Voerde/Friedrichsfeld was commenced which has a production area of more than 30,000 m� and is provided with the latest assembly and test stand equipment. Flender took into account the global trend on the wind energy market by combining the energy and electrical power transmission technology business units in the newly founded Winergy AG in December 2001. |

150th anniversary of Flender-Getriebewerkes Penig. Complete reorganization of the manufacturing facilities at the Bocholt location. |
