Appointment Of Persons To Important Posts

The Federal Constitution vests in the Yang di-Pertuan Agong the authority to appoint certain persons to important positions or posts in the government as follows:

6 Inspector General of Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police Prime Minister Police Services 140(4) and (5)
7 Justice of the Federal Court, Judges of the Court of Appeal and Judges of the High Courts Prime Minister Conference of Rulers 122B(1)
8 Chairman and Members of the Public Services Commission Prime Minister Conference of Rulers 139(4)
9 Chairman and Members of the Education Services Commission Prime Minister Conference of Rulers 141A(2)

In addition, His Majesty is also vested with the authority to appoint persons to head the government agencies and statutory bodies established under various Acts of Parliament, among others: 
  • Anti-Corruption Agency Act 1982 (Act 271) – Appointment of the Director General of Anti-Corruption Agency.
  • Births and Deaths Registration Act 1957 (Revised 1983) (Act 299) – Appointment of the Chief Registrar of Births and Deaths and other officers.
  • Employment Act 1955 (Revised 1981) (Act 165) – Appointment of the Director General of Labour and other officers.
  • Federal Lands Commissioner Act 1957 (Revised 1988) (Act 349) – Appointment of the Federal Commissioner of Lands and Mines.
  • Fisheries Act 1985 (Act 317) – Appointment of the Director General of Fisheries.
  • Immigration Act 1959/63 (Revised 1975) (Act 155) – Appointment of the Director General, Deputy Director General and senior officers of the Immigration Department.
  • Lembaga Urusan dan Tabung Haji Act 1969 (ACT 8 ) – Appointment of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Lembaga Tabung Haji.
