Donna Summer was the queen who made disco work on the radio

DONNA Summer was the undisputed queen of the 1970s disco boom, recording a string of hits that elevated her to the status of one of the world's leading female singers.

She had an unusually broad appeal, despite - or because of - the frankly sexual content of many of her songs (especially the debut Love to Love You Baby). She found a particularly devoted audience among gay men.
