“We’re really similar in that we both love hip-hop and dancing,” said Super Junior member Eunhyuk on his character, Tyrone Jackson, in musical Fame.

Eunhyuk attended the musical’s showcase, held at the DongSoong Art Center in Seoul on November 7, alongside cast members Son Ho Young, Go Eun Seong, Kim Chan Ho, Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany, Shin Ui Jeong, CSJH’s Lina, Choi Ju Ri, KoN and Trax’s Kim Jung Mo. When asked about how his character’s musical preferences compare to his own, the singer joked, “I like emotional ballads.” He continued, “To be honest, I like all genres of music—from hip-hop and jazz to Korean music. My character and I are very similar in that we both love hip-hop music and dancing. That’s why I’ve been able to happily and fully engage myself during rehearsals.” Eunhyuk has been cast as Tyrone Jackson, the talented dancer who enjoys hip-hop more than classic ballet, who also suffers from dyslexia. Although Eunhyuk made his musical debut in The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking as a middle-schooler, Fame is his first musical as an adult. “I asked Kyuhyun and the other Super Junior members who have appeared in musicals for advice, but they only made fun of me,” said the singer. “I don’t want the other members to come watch the musical. I don’t think I’ll be able to do well because I’ll be too embarrassed.” He added with a laugh, “It’d be nice if I did better than Kyuhyun.”Fame is a popular production that had a successful run at the West End Theatre from 1995 to 2006, drawing four million people to the show and sweeping 50 million pounds in ticket sales. The musical will show at the Woori Financial Art Hall from November 25 to January 29 of next year. Photo credit: Kim Byung Gwan
