Davis discovered her in the early 80s, and his latest record label J Records has more recently helped turn around the careers of Rod Stewart, Carlos Santana and Luther Vandross.



Davis first signed Houston to his Arista Records label in 1983 helping to finance and guide her career, with Houston going on to sell 14 million copies of her debut self-titled album helped by the hit singles "Saving All My Love For You" and "The Greatest Love Of All".



Earlier this year Davis, 70, was named chairman and CEO of BMG North America which includes RCA, J Records, Arista and Jive Records.
