So Good? KFC Drops Famous Catchphrase

KFC is replacing its Finger Lickin' Good slogan after more than 50 years, saying although the catchprase was a good way to describe its chicken, "it is very food centric".

The change to "So Good" has already taken place in the US and will be coming to the UK in the next few months, a spokesperson told Sky News Online.

The original slogan originated in the 1950s.

A viewer had complained after an advertisement featured someone in the background licking his fingers. Its star, a KFC manager called Ken Harbough, responded: "Well, it's finger lickin' good."

The phrase stuck and went on to become one of the best-known catchphrases of the 20th century.

But the world's most famous fried chicken chain said the change represents "more than just a new slogan".

"It’s about becoming better at everything we do, including our great-tasting food, the work we do with our people, and the way we operate in the local community," KFC's head of UK and Ireland operations Martin Shuker said.

The company plans to put calorie information on its menu boards from September and launch its first ever non-fried griddled product called Brazer, as a lighter option.

As consumers become increasingly concerned about health and environmental issues, many high-street food outlets have amended their menus and practices.

As a business, KFC has experienced 19 consecutive quarters of growth.

It is owned by Yum! Brands, which also runs Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.
