Doherty made the maximum break during a 4-0 win over Julian Treiber in the third round of the tournament in Furth.
The Irishman, who infamously just missed out on a 147 back in 2000, said: “I’ve certainly waited long enough to make a 147 in tournament play.
"Missing the black in the Masters...will haunt me for the rest of my career and people will never let me forget that but at least now that I’ve made one. It’s a lovely feeling.”
Doherty went on to defeat Stephen Lee 4-3 in round four and Yu De Lu 4-1 in round five.
World number one Mark Selby also progressed into the sixth round of the tournament, held in honour of the late Paul Hunter, who died from neuroendocrine tumors in 2006, just before his 28th birthday.
Selby beat Mark Davis 4-3 in the fifth round, but John Higgins was bounced out at the same stage, 4-1 by Pankaj Advani.
The remaining third, fourth and fifth round matches are scheduled to be completed on Saturday, before the tournament is played out to a finish.
