A satellite is a large-scale system consisting of half a million parts and components. In terms of structural design, the system can be divided into two subsystems: the "mission system", which is designed to enable satellites to achieve their mission- including communications, broadcast and weather monitoring, and the "bus system", which is required by every satellite.
The bus system is composed of a number of subsystems. The gyroscope, power supply, antenna, telemetry and tracking command, mechanical, and thermal control subsystems are major subsystems. Unlike the mission system that requires an optimum design according to the mission of a satellite, the bus system must be equipped with proven components that allow larger power supplies, more accurate orientation of satellites, and as great a weight saving as possible in order to reduce design and development risks.
NEC has supplied bus subsystems such as Earth sensor assemblies for satellite orientation control, and solar array paddles and solar array drive mechanism for power supplies.
