Welcome to the International Health Partnership
IHP+ is a group of partners committed to improving the health of citizens in developing countries. Partners work together to put international principles for effective aid and development co-operation into practice in the health sector. IHP+ mobilizes national governments, development agencies, civil society and others to support a single, country-led national health strategy in a well-coordinated way.
Improving health and health services is a complex task in any country. It involves governments, health workers, civil society, parliamentarians and other stakeholders. In developing countries, money for health comes from both domestic and external resources.
This means governments must also work with a range of international development partners. These are increasing in number, use different funding streams and have diverse bureaucratic demands. Efforts can become fragmented and resources can be wasted.
The 2005 Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness is a set of principles based on years of experience of what makes aid and development cooperation effective. The Accra Agenda for Action (2008) and the Busan Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation (2011) build on the Paris Declaration.
IHP+ puts these principles into practice in the health sector by encouraging wide support for a single national health strategy or plan, a single monitoring and evaluation framework, and a strong emphasis on partners holding each other to account. This aims to build confidence between government, civil society, development partners and others whose activities affect health. IHP+ is about people and organizations at local, national and global levels uniting for a healthier future.
The IHP+ Global Compact for achieving the health Millennium Development Goals is signed by all international organizations, bilateral agencies and country governments.
