Speaking at a seminar organised by All India minority Forum in Kolkata on Saturday, its president Idris Ali said if this code was introduced, then it would create unrest in the country.
He said it would not be proper to abolish the personal law of any community.
The secretary of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Moulana Siddiquillah Chowdhury said Islam was a mature religion and responsible for keeping the secular fabric intact in the country.
He warned that any attempt to intervene in the Muslim personal law would invite tension and unrest in the country.
The same view was echoed by president of the Calcutta High Court Bar Association and former MP Sardar Amjad Ali.
The general secretary of Bangiya Christiya Pariseba, Herod Mullick and chairman of West Bengal Bar Council, Amiya Kumar Chatterjee also spoke on the occasion.
