Two main contracts have been awarded for the development of the offshore Marjan oil field, as part of Saudi Aramco's oil capacity expansion programme. Bids for the next development project, at the Zuluf field, have also been invited and seven companies and joint ventures are understood to be preparing offers (MEED 21:2:92;24:5:91).
The larger Marjan contract involves offshore work and has been let to a joint venture of the US' Brown & Root with the local M Al-Mojil Establishment. It was signed in late February and is worth more than $50 million. Work will bring on stream gas-oil separation plants (GOSPs) 2 and 3, which were built in the mid-1980s, but never commissioned.
