The 147 came in the last frame of a 6-2 victory for Cornwall-based 39-year-old Hicks as he progressed to a third round meeting with Mark Joyce.

World No 64 Hicks, who reached the semi-finals of the UK Championship in 1995, earns a £2,500 bonus from the rolling 147 prize pot for qualifying events, plus the £500 non-TV high break prize, providing the 147 is not equalled.

It's the 93rd official maximum in snooker history and fifth of the season after one each from Stuart Bingham, Ken Doherty, John Higgins and Tom Ford. The 147 from Ford came just five days ago at the Bulgarian Open.

Hicks needs to win two more matches to reach the final stages in York. The qualifiers run until Friday.
