Right To Work States Definition
What is a Right to Work State?
A right to work states definition can vary but generally a right to work state is a state whose legislature has passed what is commonly known as a “right to work” law. A right to work law prohibits an agreement between an employer and a labor union that makes membership in a union or payment of union dues a condition of employment. Thus, a state’s right to work protects the right of a person/employee to make their own decision about joining a union. There are currently 22 right to work states.
