The scoop from Washington

Obama resigns from Trinity United Church of Christ. UPDATE. Obama to answer questions about his church Saturday night.

WASHINGTON--UPDATE--Obama spokesman Bill Burton confirmed that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) quit Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ. Obama "will answer questions this evening" about resigning from the church that helped Obama chart his course as a Christian, an Obama top adviser just told me. UPDATE 2 Obama campaign manager David Plouffe just told me Obama's availability--where he will talk about ending his long relationship with Trinity will take place at about 8:15 p.m. eastern time tonight, from South Dakota, where he is campaigning in advance of Tuesday's primary vote.

Obama quits his church following Father Michael Pfleger's sermon ridiculing Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) from the Trinity pulpit last Sunday, reigniting stories about Obama's associations with the inflammatory Trinity pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who stepped down from his role as senior pastor to hand over the top job to the Rev. Otis Moss III. Obama's move comes as Moss praised for his "message" after Pfleger a scorched Clinton.

Hat tip to Chicago's Monroe Anderson at LINK for the scoop that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has resigned his membership at Trinity United Church of Christ. Hat tip to Marc Ambinder at www.theatlantic.com for passing it on.

too little too late.

With Barak Obama's departure from the church, we can prayerfully say: ENOUGH ALREADY, and get back to a discussion of, and finding solutions for, REAL issues that concern and affect REAL people.

I began writing this umpteenth comment critiquing yet another speech from Senator Obama which he intended to get him off the hook for the damning conduct of one of his associates by misdirecting the public's focus onto... but then I had to stop. Forming a critical analysis of anything associated with this man lends him more credibility than he merits.

So what difference is this supposed to make?

Ditto to "too little too late."

Seems that the Obama camp has this well planned. First, Fr. Pfleger dsepicable remarks about Hillary that was craftily staged to be held at his church. Secondly, that act wanted us to perceive why he finally decided to quit his church which he did not do after denouncing Rev Wright. Does Obama really thinks we can easily be fooled and swayed by his false actions? It's sickening to see all of his charade and false facade to cover up his problem with poor judgment and untrustworthiness. America, please wake up and see the falsehood from this man.

So -- he leaves NOW-- when it's politically disadvantageous.

I so hope the GOP hammers him with his come fall. What a hypocrite.

How ungrateful and clueless of Obama. After 20 years, he quit the church that married him and his wife and baptized his daughters. Am I supposed to believe that Obama really has not heard anything controversial, inflammatory, hateful, or racist from the pastors of these church? Does the pastor change his message everytime Obama walks into the church or something? Obama's claim that he hasn't heard anything about 9/11, the government injecting AIDS into AA, Bill riding Monica, and is now so shocked that he must quit, is unbelievable. And his recent departure is too late...20 years too late. It just makes Obama look confused, weak, and opportunistic.

Unfortunately for Trinity, it just lost its star congregant. I guess Obama does not need Trinity anymore. He got all the street cred he needed. Obama just threw another friend under the bus.

He can resign, but that does not erase 20 years of influence that the inflamatory, anti-American, anti-white church has had on Obama . . . these pastors from the church have been his spiritual advisors . . . and Obama's book reflects so much of what this church teaches.

I read the letter to the Church, and saw the congregation cheering during the Hillary episode.
I am sorry Senator Obama is so worried about that congregation. I agree, to little to late!

He is such a phoney. And by the way, are his wife and kids leaving too?

Of course, he'll 'rejoin' the church after he wins the presidency. Back to the same old 'hate white, hate America' sermons.

The middle class and working class are always very good at sniffing out the character of presidential candidates. That's why the majority of them don't vote for Obama.

Obama is just not trustworthy. He would deny until evidence is practically shoved it in his face. We have seen the pattern with Rev. Wright when initially, Obama blames Americans for taking things out of context until Wright made a liar out of Obama. Then Obama said that after 20years of listening to Wright, he does know any of these things said by Wright and is surprised. With his church, it is the same pattern. He blames people for blaming the church and now we see the people attending that church clapping and cheering this anti-white and anti-american teaching.

It is way too late! The 91% blacks and the DNC who steal the American's votes in Florida and Michigan will regret that they may claim to have the first AA as their party nominee but it will also be known as the year that the dems will loose that election that they are supposed to win!

Write in Clinton or vote McCain!

Obama is worried that Hillary's supporters will not vote for him. He has been very busy lately, trying to mollify Hillary's supporters. Offensive comments about Hillary drove Obama to finally leave his church. He knows he can't win without Hillary's people. This is why he was willing to "compromise" on Florida and Michigan and generously award a vote for Hillary one half its value. To some, Obama appears to have the high ground because he is not disputing the DNC's rules regarding FL and MI. But he took his name off the ballot in MI because he was losing there big time, not because he cared about following the rules. Do you think that Barack Obama, who on the basis of technicalities, had lawyers take all of his opponents off the ballot in one of his Illinois races so he could run unopposed, stands for principles? The principle here is not about unity or some such buzzword. The principle is what Hillary is so often accused of, to do anything to get elected.

HOW CAN YOU BLAME THE ACTIONS OF A CHURCH/PASTOR ON A MEMBERS OF THE CONGRIGATION YOU PEOPLE WHO CONDEM OBAMA MUST BE OUT OF YOUR MIND THE ONLY REASON WHY YOU PEOPLE ACUSE OBAMA IS BECAUSE OF PERSONAL HATERED IF GOD CALLED HIM NOTING HUMAN OR SATAN MAY DO IT WILL NOT STOP HIM ACHIVE WHAT GOD HAS CALL HIM FOR. REMEMBER OBAMA IS NOT IN PASTORS MEETING TO KNOW WTHAT HE WANT TO PREACH.

So, let me get this straight -- Obama is being held responsible for comments about HRC by a second minister, who isn't even a regular preacher at his now former church. Those attacking him include putative Democratic HRC supporters (I say "putative" because real Dems will be voting for the Dem candidate, regardless of who they supported in the primaries, and that doesn't seem to be the vibe here.)

As for you out and out Republicans -- let me get this REALLY straight, you're mad that a cleric who has only a tangential relationship with Obama made fun of Hillary Clinton? This really makes you mad, after you've accused her of everything short of being the daughter of Satan? After quite literally accusing her of every crime known to man, you're mad that someone (quite wrongly I should add) implied she was also a little bit racist?

And for those of you who really live in a world where everyone agrees with you, how safe and comfortable you must be to never have a close friend or relative or associate, including a friend, minister or a boss or a parent, make an outrageous remark. Must be very relaxing.

None of this makes any sense, folks. Not one little tiny bit.

My but there certainly are a lot of very judgemental folks out there. Funny that no one has this kind of outrage at KKK members who have threatened Obama and the members of this church. For the record, I am white, but it disgusts me how one-sided the hate is regarding Obama, yet no one seems to think twice about people in this country who are still active members of the KKK and even "regular" folks who have send hundreds of death threats to Obama, Wright, members of this church etc. Where's your outrage at these people. The words of one person, such as Wright don't make the behavior of those who respond with threats and violence any more justified, and those who have responded with such hate are no better than people like Wright.

No one is perfect, but unless (God knows, especially politicians) you have something against Obama for something specific HE HAS DONE, then "Let He Who Is Without Sin Cast The First Stone". Otherwise, please spare the world from your feigned outrage for his "associations" and try showing some for some of the actual atrocities in this world!

HE AND HIS WIFE JOINED THE CHURCH TOGETHER, THEY WILL LEAVE
TOGETHER, ALONG WITH THE CHILDREN, A FAMILY THAT PRAYS TOGETHER
STAYS TOGETHER!

Well now, the Vatican took how long to slap the hand of those child molesting priests and Barry takes 20 years to leave his church. The Catholic church is still reeling from their inconvenient lapse. So shall the DNC since it has anointed O. I see backlash. Two presidents in 40 years should be the mantra that the SDs should repeat over and over.

In both the Wright and Pfleger sermons, it is not just the speaker but the congregation's boisterous approval of the content that is not only offensive but truly worrying. In effect, they agree that all whites - there were no exceptions made - have a "privileged" mentality. By extension, Hillary's supporters would think the way Pfleger divined Hillary's thinking. Is that not racial sterotyping, at least, if not outright racism? Where is Obama's apology for the congregations' reaction? Where is the apology by Reverend Moss, who glowed with approval following Pfleger's hate speech?
Pfleger, btw, was not just a "guest" preacher. He is an Obama supporter, donator, head of Catholic for Obama, and his parish a recipient of large sums of taxpayers' money thanks to Barry. Barry cites him as one of his spiritual influences.
To borrow from Donna Brazile a bit, my mama told me "show me your friends and I'll tell you what you are."
As for outrage at the KKK threats, where is the story on that, where is the blog; we'll go there and denounce them. Because unlike the willful distortions by the Obama campaign, neither Hillary nor we, her supporters, wish any harm on Barry. Do you not think Hillary Clinton has been the target of death threats? And in your heart of hearts, can you really say that those death threats bother you? I wonder.

Senator Obama's actions come much too late and nothing more than a political concession. Go away Senator. Go back to your Chicago politics and to your church. We can all see right through you.

For a campaign that has proven to be adept at portraying their candidate as someone committed to holding the moral high ground, and offering hope for change, this latest decision could backfire badly. What are all those 'progressive values' voters supposed to conclude about Obama's integrity when he tosses his entire church under the campaign bus? First, Wright. Then Pfleger. Now, Trinity United Church of Christ. Who's next? It's getting pretty crowded under there.

I think it's about time the Democratic Party make a decision about who should represent their party. It doesn't matter at this time. I like Obama he seems to be the most rational of both candidate. But if Hillary Clinton thinks only the Clinton's can run the country so be it.

I see the Democratic Party as a weak link, they are loosing their creditability on the global front, they are unable to make a crucial decision in this matter, how can anyone vote for such a party. They are acting like a 5 year old kid. For the President of the United State he must be decisive and strong. You cannot think in terms of maybe this or may that. Hillary seems to be running the party, whatever she says goes.

Now make up your mind.
