A NBC tv crew arrive in Scotland this week to make a documentary/ information film about curling, its stars, its origins and how curling stones are manufactured. The crew will visit the last site of a Grand Match (The Lake of Menteith) Near Aberfoyle, Greenacres Curling Rink, Kays of Scotland Factory and take a helicopter tour of Ailsa Craig.

The Kays of Scotland Curling Stones that will be used in the test events this year in February/March and the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi Russia have left the UK and are on route to the Ice Cube Centre In Sochi.

The testing of the stones to be used in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games has been completed. The stones will be used in the test events in February 2013 at the World Wheel Chairs and the World Junior Championships in Sochi.

The World Curling Federation held its first ever congress in Scotland at the Turnberry Hotel in sight of Ailsa Craig. Kays of Scotland were delighted to be able to do a presentation to more than 100 representatives from 38 countries. Additionally we were delighted to host many of the delegates at specially organised Kays of Scotland factory visits.

The curling stones that are to be used at the Sochi Winter Olympic Games in Sochi 2014 have completed the production process and have now been delivered to Greenacres Curling Rink in Scotland for the rigorous testing procedures to begin.

Kays of Scotland is delighted to announce that they have won the contract to manufacture the curling stones that will be used in the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi Russia in 2014.

The body of the stones will be made from Ailsa Craig Common Green Granite.

The inserts one on each side will be made of Ailsa Craig Blue Hone Granite the only substance proven to work effectively and consistently on modern ice.

The stones will be finished to the new Olympic specification with 8mm cups.

Kays of Scotland’s Managing Director Donald Mccrae said ’This order means that Kays of Scotland will have provided the curling stones for the last 5 Winter Olympic Games. A great achievement for the Company and Scotland’.
 
  New World Class Machinery

Kays of Scotland have perfected a new machine that finishes the running edges of curling stones.

This process in the past has been done by hand. Now with the new machine 4 stones can be done at a time and the machine eliminates any possibility of human error.

Kay’s Factory Manager Bill Hunter is delighted with the machine and its performance.He commented that ’The time saved and the quality achieved will take Kays of Scotland’s curling stones to new levels of excellence’
