Cameroon could soon have the third international airport after Douala and Yaoundé.

Rehabilitation works are ongoing, according to Allabira Mamadou, deputy General Manager of Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority.
As part of the preparations, the country’s air transport management body recently acquired two fire-fighting trucks and two pick-ups. French made, the equipment cost about 1.5 billion francs CFA, according to a reliable source in the corporation, said Le Quotidien de l’Economie.
With a capacity of 6,100 litres of water and 800 litres of foaming agent, the trucks were handed to the authorities on March 28 in Douala.
Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines had already expressed its desire to fly from Maroua to Istanbul, according to the Governor of the Far North region, Awa Fonka Agustine.

confusion is the driving force of cameroon. i also want to believe that the fire trucks and pick-ups are small planes that can fly to cost that amount. we are cursed in the hands of france. the is the only country on earth that nothing good can come from them.

The so-called D’la Int’l Airport is a symbol of our shame; an indication that our country is a failed state. It doesn’t deserve the title “Int’l”. Any foreigner who passes through that airport would feel sorry for us. Personally, it is humiliation.

My Uncle said the exact words you just said. Why opening more airport when the ones we have is in such a state. What about using the funds to rehabilitate what we already have?. Look at Ghana for example, they have only 1 international airport, and its a proper one.

Placing three airports in operation is similar to putting three taxicabs on the road; the viable ones help to maintain the less profitable one, at least for a while.
But the trump card in this business is managerial savvy. Unless Cameroon can deploy management that maximizes the human and material resources, it is all vanity, empty boasting about “image de marque du Cameroun”. One does not need a university diploma to know that toilets need regular cleaning, burnt light bulbs need changing,customers need coaxing rather than coercing,and so on.To stay in business and make profits, we must keep aside big titles and let the customer feel like the KING, and he will continue to patronize.

It is unbelievable the extent of theft and corruption. No one questioning the value of the trucks. 1.5 Billion CFA? Even if they were Ferrari or Rolls Roys trucks, they won’t come close to that figure.
Alachu, you can do a google search to see the actual value of a fire truck. Small counties in the US can afford 2-3 such trucks with very little budget. I challenge you to find a fire truck that costs a million dollars – anywhere, even a Ferrari fire truck would count.

It’s not a bad thing to acquire whatsoever from other countries.If they have advanced technology in these fields we can learn from them.What is bad is the inability to train our own people,whereas we have the money.Where do the funds go.There’s just no problem dealing with the French as partners.We cannot live in their countries and refuse to do business with them.

Well I think what we should be asking here is the quality of the trucks.How much is a ferrari? It can be worthy to have those trucks at that amount.The issue here is that the CFA is a toilet tissue and too weak when compared to some foreign currencies.that is why we see it as a huge some of money.To me I think its a good initiative because it will reduce unemploment and will encourage development.the bamenda airport should not forgotten.we need these airports but not as much as we need roads linking the regions.people cannot travel to the airports on foot therefore the government should think of national roads first while they manage the three international airports of D’la,Y’de and Ng’dere

Is that air strip in D’la called an international airport? i don die. No air condition, blocked toilets, no seats fo waiting passengers to sit on, the list is long, yet we pay 10,000frs each time we leave pays as airport tax while the infrastructure gets worst by the time we make the nxt trip. It’s really sad to see that people here just jump to criticisms with any money related article. Airport security equipment are expensive and a airport fire trucks, which are in fact tankers can run up to 5 hundred thousand US dollars for one to be used in an airport classified as internal. Get two of them and a couple of 4×4 rescue vehicle (which are not your typical 4×4 pickups, but armored and specially equipped trucks) and the bill can get salty.
Now for those asking why Maroua, this town is a major tourism hub and many tourists now land in Djamena before crossing to Cameroon, requiring multiple visas, which hinders the development of tourism in Cameroon. I applaud this decision.
