Shaun Murphy joined Mark Selby as the big-name casualties from the Wuxi Classic qualifiers as he suffered a 5-1 defeat against Q School graduate Alex Davies.

 

World number four Murphy managed a high break of just 27 as he missed out on a trip to China next month. He won the first frame on the black before Essex cueman Davies won five in a row with a top break of 50.

 

China's 15-year-old prodigy Lu Haotian enjoyed a superb start to his first season on the pro tour, beating Rod Lawler 5-2 and making a 135. Tian Pengfei also made it through to his home event by beating Luca Brecel 5-3 with a top run of 139.

 

Ken Doherty saw off his friend Joe Swail 5-2 with a top break of 65, while another Irishman, David Morris, enjoyed a 5-3 win over Michael Holt.
