Microsoft Corp. on Tuesday unveiled its highly-anticipated third-generation Xbox video game system called Xbox One. The new game console reflects Microsoft’s vision towards video gaming and entertainment: the system is powerful enough to handle next-generation video-games, but is mostly designed to bring all-new capabilities beyond gaming to the living room.

Next Xbox Unleashed

As expected, Microsoft Xbox One is based on AMD Fusion custom-designed system-on-chip with eight x86 low-power/low-cost Jaguar cores, AMD Radeon HD graphics with GCN architecture (with 32MB ESRAM/EDRAM buffer) as well as 8GB of DDR3 system memory. The console will feature 500GB hard disk drive, Blu-ray disc drive, output of video with up to 4K resolution (3840*2160) using HDMI 1.4 as well as 7.1-channel audio. The new Xbox One will come with completely redesigned Kinect sensor that will feature 1920*1080 RGB camera, improved infrared sensor and enhanced voice controls. The console will feature a number of functions, e.g. TV-cable pass-through that will seamlessly integrate it into the living room.

“Xbox One is designed to deliver a whole new generation of blockbuster games, television and entertainment in a powerful, all-in-one device. Our unique, modern architecture brings simplicity to the living room and, for the first time ever, the ability to instantly switch across your games and entertainment,” said Don Mattrick, president of interactive entertainment business at Microsoft.

To create the most advanced Xbox system ever designed for games, TV and entertainment, Microsoft created a state-of-the-art gaming operating system and fused it with an entertainment platform, so one will not have to switch inputs to watch TV or play a game.

Xbox One is built to amplify an all-new generation of Xbox Live that is more powerful, more personal and more intelligent. Unleashing the virtually unlimited power of the cloud makes everything more convenient and accessible, from allowing games to be installed in segments so that gameplay can start quickly to updates downloading in the background.

Xbox One will launch in markets around the world later this year. Pricing is unknown. Leading video game developers are committed to bring new-generation and exclusive titles to the new platforms.

Unique Features

Some of the breakthrough Xbox One features that put gamers at the center of the living room entertainment include the following:

  • TV on Xbox One: Navigate and watch live TV from your cable, telco or satellite set-top box through your Xbox One. Microsoft is committed to bringing live TV through various solutions to all the markets where Xbox One will be available.
  • Home: Turn on your entertainment system with two powerful words, “Xbox On,” and a custom-tailored Home dashboard welcomes you with your favorite games, TV and entertainment.
  • Snap. Do two things at once on the biggest screen in your home. Use Snap to jump into a multiplayer battle while watching your favorite movie, talk with friends on Skype while watching live TV, or track your fantasy team on TV as you watch the big game and more.
  • Skype for Xbox One. Specially designed for Xbox One, talk with friends on your TV in stunning HD, or for the first time ever, hold group Skype calls on your TV.
  • Trending: Stay on top of what is hot on TV by discovering the entertainment that is popular among your friends, and see what is trending within the Xbox community.
  • OneGuide: Find your favorite entertainment easily, searching by network or name, all with the sound of your voice and presented in a tailored program guide.
  • Smart Match: A new Smart Match matchmaking system virtually eliminates waiting in lobbies by estimating wait times and finding people you want to play with while you are enjoying other activities — reputation fundamentally matters and helps find best matches.
  • Game DVR: A dedicated Game DVR captures and accesses your magic moments, all saved to the cloud. Along with sharing tools, you will have the most amazing bragging rights with Xbox Live.
  • Living Games: Dynamic, living worlds evolve and improve the more you play, and advanced artificial intelligence can learn to play like you, so friends can play against your shadow.
  • Expanded achievements: A new and expanded achievements system captures video of your epic moments, continues to grow a game’s achievements over time and rewards you in new ways, and your Gamerscore carries over from Xbox 360.
  • Xbox SmartGlass: is natively part of the Xbox One platform, built in from the beginning with the ability to quickly render content directly onto your device, and now more devices can connect at one time for multiplayer and shared entertainment.

Sorry, to burst your bubble but most people the ones that Microsoft actually makes money from don't even know what Gflops or bandwidth means and don't really care. People on these sites are the minority, and all these companies are going for the big money. In the long run you don't matter.

So 90% of it was focused is on multimedia and 10% of it was focused on actually raw gaming. If this was strictly for multimedia it would be great, but considering this is suppose to be their next gen console, the graphics were anything but great. I wasn't impressed at all with the gaming graphics they showed at the unveiling. Forza 5 for example on the xbox one didn't look any better then Forza 4 on the xbox 360. And the Call Of Duty Ghost they showed was more of an animated video preview then anything else. As for the name its misleading when you hear xbox one you think of the first xbox not the next gen xbox, they couldn't have picked a more misleading name to call their next gen console. I'm glad that Sony has put its main focus on graphics with the PS4, because that's what true console are all about and not this multimedia/console microsoft is presenting with the xbox one. I already have a smart TV with an HD DVR and a blu ray player and that's all the multimedia I need.

Read Anandtech. It has been the least well hidden secret for many months. The other one is the MS Surface Pro using AMD 4x Jaguar cores wih turbo dock.

Good luck trying to sell ONE of these ~ $600 for a 'gaming' console that just happens to also play BD's and pass thru FTA/cable whilst trying to squeeze even more $ from the poor consumer when they already have a BD player and a smart TV or HTPC

No matter the specs, sales will be abysmal compared to when the 360 was released as $600 is just too much for most ppl

Here’s my openion why xbox one will fail-
1.these are game consoles
Almost sure Rumor- PS4 has nearly 50% more graphical power than Xbox one

PS4’s total benefit over xbox one is- 50% more gpu cores +much faster memory+ better HSA
-On PS4 Future games will look considerably better than xbox one surley.
When it comes to multimedia PS4 also have many serious multimedia capabilities but they r hidden for now.
