Fairtrade & Food for Life

Nottingham Trent University has been awarded Fairtrade status. Fairtrade products are available in all campus shops, catering outlets and at all meetings hosted by the University and the Students' Union. All Nottingham Trent University branded t-shirts and hoodies sold in the SU shops are made from Fairtrade cotton.

The University has also been awarded the Soil Association's Food for Life Silver award. This means that all of the food contains no controversial e-numbers such as aspartame, tartarine and MSG. All of the catering outlets now sell organic milk and coffee and the fish bought is MSC Certified.

The Food for Thought project at NTU also brings sustainability to the forefront ensuring that it is interesting, fun and engaging.

Fairtrade Steering Group

The Fairtrade Steering Group demonstrates a strong commitment to increasing Fairtrade consumption on our campuses, as detailed in the University's Fairtrade PolicyPDF icon . The steering group meets approximately four times a year to discuss NTU's Fairtrade progress and plan for promotions and events such as Fairtrade Fortnight. The steering group is open to any NTU staff or students that are interested in Fairtrade and would like to get involved. Contact Gill Moczarski for more details.

Fairtrade Fortnight

Every year NTU celebrates Fairtrade Fortnight with a range of events and activities to raise awareness of the work of the Fairtrade Foundation and our commitment to ensuring that farmers in some of the poorest areas of the world receive a fair price for their produce.

Previous events have included:

  • Fairtrade market
  • Go Bananas challenge where we gave away over 800 Fairtrade bananas to staff and students
  • offers in NTU's catering outlets
  • Fairtrade cotton t-shirt design competition.

Advice on eating well is available on our Student Services pages. See the Fairtrade Foundation website for more information on their mission.
