Cornish in Schools

More schools than ever are choosing to teach Cornish.

St Ives School

Many pre-school and playgroups, a bilingual nursery and an increasing number of primary and secondary schools now offer children the opportunity to learn Cornish.

Classes on offer vary from introducing the basics to an assessed level in accordance with a nationally accredited scheme. As well as delivering sessions, MAGA is helping build the capacity of schools to deliver more learning opportunities than ever before. This involves helping train school teachers to both embed Cornish in day to day activities and deliver stand alone sessions themselves. Additionally, we are working with a nationally recognised government agency to train community educators to work with schools and provide services across a range of abilities and interest.

In terms of resources, in addition to existing material, basic digital starter packs are now available from Maga free of charge and there is an online resource site called Skol-Net Kernow where teachers can download a whole range of teaching resources for free.

Information of direct relevance to schools will be found in this area of the site as well as information on projects and work underway.
