Children´s railway

The 4.2 km long Children’s Railway, the first of its kind in former Czechoslovakia, runs through the lovely Čermeľ valley at the outskirts of Košice, stopping at three places – Čermeľ, Vpred and Alpinka. Its construction began on 17 April 1955 and the railway was completed a year later, on 1 May, without using any machinery. The U36,003 steam locomotive called Katka , built in 1884 by the Hagans factory in Erfurt, Germany, was newly restored in July 1991.
The season always begins on 1 May, during the Days of Košice, commemorating the long and captivating history of steam engines, so popular with the visitors.

How to get there:
Tram no. 2 from the city centre (get on at Dom umenia (House of Art) or at the Main Post Office on Kuzmányho street) in the direction of Havlíčkova, where you change for bus no. 14 in the direction of Bankov or Jahodná; get off at the stop Čermeľ.
