    Mr. Mohammed Faseen Rafiu of Maldives bagged the SAARC Youth Award under the theme, “Youth Leadership in the fight against social ills.�?

    Mr. Rafiu was chosen the winner of the Award for his outstanding contributions in the fight against abuse of drugs, particularly in the recovery and rehabilitation of drug addicts in the Maldives. He is the first Maldivian to win the Award.

    SAARC celebrated its Twenty-ninth Charter Day today

    The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) celebrated its Twenty-ninth Charter Day today. The Charter establishing the Association was signed on 8 December 1985 by the SAARC Heads of State or Government during their first-ever Summit meeting in Dhaka, the initiative for which was spearheaded by late President Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh.

SG Signing the Condolence Book

SECRETARY-GENERAL SIGNS THE CONDOLENCE BOOK

H. E. Mr. Ahmed Saleem, Secretary-General of SAARC, paid tribute to late Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, former President of the Republic of South Africa this morning.

He did so by signing the Condolence Book at the Office of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of South Africa at Pulchowk, Lalitpur, Nepal.� The Condolence Book is open for signature from 9 to 12 December 2013.

In his own hand-written remarks in the Book, he said, “Nelson Mandela was the symbol of peace, unity and reconciliation.� Madiba will be missed by the whole world.”
