The four-time world champion, 38, was whitewashed 4-0 by world No 30 Andrew Higginson at the Kay Suzanne Memorial Cup in Gloucester.
Higgins next faces fellow Scot Stephen Maguire in the first phase of the new Champion of Champions event in Coventry on November 19.
