We have been working in telecommunications since 2000 when Thiess and Siemens established the Siemens Thiess Communications joint venture (STCJV) to maintain infrastructure for Telstra.
In 2005 STCJV was renamed Silcar Communications and became an operating division of Silcar Pty Ltd, a 50% owned and incorporated joint venture between Siemens and Thiess established to pursue telecommunications network, power and industrial asset maintenance work throughout Australia. Thiess assumed 100% ownership of Silcar in July 2013.
Thiess has partnered with Silcar to take the lead role in deploying optic fibre cable for the National Broadband Network (NBN) throughout Queensland, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Under the initial stages of this program about 400,000 Australians living in rural and regional areas will gain significant business, health and educational benefits from having access to faster download speeds.
