INCEPTION is an action thriller about a man called Cobb who is able to enter the dreams of others in order to steal or implant information. The film was classified '12A' for moderate violence.

The film contains various scenes of moderate violence. These include several extended gunfights, with occasional glimpses of blood as bullets find their marks. There are a couple of long fight sequences where crunchy blows are exchanged between the combatants. The violence is mitigated somewhat by the fact that it tends to take place in the dreamworld, with the heroes beset by assailants generated by the dreamer’s subconscious. The BBFC's '12A'/'12' Guidelines state that 'Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood'. The scenes of violence, while often extended, do not dwell on any detail. Similarly, the few scenes of injury detail do not emphasise blood or injuries, even when some blood is visible. The overall fantastical context of the film further reduces the impact of the scenes.

There is also a plot strand that involves suicide, with Cobb’s girlfriend trying to persuade him that by dying together they will never be apart. She throws herself off a building at one point and then, later, we see them with their heads on a railway line as a train approaches. Again, this tends to take place in the dreamworld and this acts as a distancing factor. The film also contains mild language (eg 'crap', 'bullshit').
