Korean rock band FTIsland’s frontman Lee Hong-ki will be expanding his career to the big screen by playing the role of a top star in an upcoming film.

A rep with his agency, FNC Entertainment, told the magazine on Monday that Lee has been cast as the male lead in director Nam Tae-soo’s “A Heaven of Our Own” (tentative title).

“I put a great deal of importance and thoughts into choosing my big screen debut project. I was largely moved by the scenario,” Lee said in a statement sent this morning.

Set to crank in this September, “A Heaven of Our Own” focuses on the story of a top star named Chung-eui who is sent to a hospice to carry out his community service after causing a trouble that stirs up social controversy.

While being committed to helping patients in the hospital, the top Korean celebrity learns to deal with his own pain and realizes the importance of music.

Lee is lead singer of FTIsland alongside other members Song Seung-hyun, Choi Min-hwan, Lee Jea-jin and Choi Jong-hoon.

Outside of his group activities, Lee has appeared in many hit TV series including SBS’ “He’s Beautiful” (2009) with actor Jang Keun-suk.

He has also appeared in the Japanese dramas “Hard to Say I Love You” (2010) with Kim Jaejoong of boy band JYJ and “Muscle girl!” (2011).
