The Hague turns Orange on King’s Day!

On Saturday, 26 April King’s Day (Koningsdag) in The Hague will be filled this year with all kinds of fun activities in the city and along the water.

During this year’s first-ever King’s Day you can join in on the festivities with a fancy fair, historic tram tours, boat rides, flea markets, special museum activities and much more. With the ‘Haagse Koningsdag 2014’ flyer you can get a discount on many activities in the city centre.

Fancy fair

Come and  celebrate King’s Day in The Hague at a traditional Dutch fun fair. The King’s Fair (Koningskermis) is in town from 18 April until 5 May on the Lange Voorhout, Lange Vijverberg, Buitenhof and Frederik Hendriklaan.

City tours

  • Historic trams. The Hague Public Transport Museum is organising historic tram tours around the city between 12.00 and 17.00 hrs. from the Lange Voorhout or Bierkade tram stop. With the flyer € 2.00 per person (€ 1.50 for children and 65+).
  • Golden carriage rides. Between 11.00 and 16.00 hrs. through the city centre departing from the corner of the Grote Marktstrtaat and Spui. With the flyer € 5.00 per person (€ 2.00 for children). Info at www.stadskoetsiers.com.
  • Segway tours. Starting from the New Babylon shopping centre. More information and reservations on www.segwaybooking.com.  
  • Oranje-Nassau boat ride with De Ooievaart. Boats depart at 15.00 and 17.00 hrs. from the Bierkade. With the flyer € 7.50 per person (€ 5.00 for children) including an orange-coloured drink.
  • Boat rides through Benoordenhout with the Willemsvaart. Boats depart at 12.00, 13.00, 14.00 and 15.00 hrs. from Koninginnegracht 14 and 15. With the flyer € 5.00 per person. 
  • Group boat rides from the Mauritskade/Hilton Hotel. Reserve via www.bootvarendenhaag.nl.

Geranium market

The annual Geranium Market will take place as usual on the Lange Voorhout from 8.30 to 17.00 hrs. on 26 April. The flyer will give you a free mini plant at the Groei en Bloei stand (while supplies last).

Museums

  • Historical Museum of The Hague at Korte Vijverberg 7. Open 12.00 to 17.00 hrs. Adults  € 7.50, children 5 to 18 years € 2.50. Free Oranje Quick Tour with flyer.
  • Van Kleef Museum and Distillery since 1842 at Lange Beestenmarkt 109. Tasting room and shop open from 10.00 to 18.00 hrs. Smoked mackerel in the museum garden, weather permitting. With flyer free ‘Kauningsbittâh’ sample and 15% discount on Kruik “Kauningsbittâh”.

Say Something Nice

The Kloosterkerk will hold the international Say Something Nice project in front of the church. Everyone who would like to say something nice can take their place behind the pulpit as of 11.00 hrs.

Queensize Concert

Ode to Queen Maximá by the Residentie Orkest: Argentinian tango concert and after party starting at 21.00 hrs. in the Paard van Troje. Reserve via www.residentieorkest.nl or call tel. (070) 880 03 33.  Tickets cost € 16.50 with the flyer or by mentioning ‘Haagse Koningsdag’.

Fun galore

You can also book a number of guided walking tours through the Tourist Information Office (VVV The Hague). King’s Day parties are planned at the cafes and bars in the Denneweg, Oude Molstraat, De Sillestraat and the Soestdijkseplein.

Be sure to stake out your spot early at one of the King’s Day flea markets (vrijmarkten)! And remember that paid parking is in effect on 26 April.
