Ding Junhui moved past Mark King in the quarterfinals of the China Snooker Open to set up a final with Mike Dunn. Dunn did a good job by being teh surprise winner fo Mark Selby, so the Chinese number one will be the favourite later as he aims to win a fifth ranking title this season.

The home favorite breezed past John Higgins 5-2 in the previous round, the last 16. He would jump straight into the lead. Ding with stunning from long-range potting and took the first two frames with breaks of 53 and 67.

The third frame was a bit more tense before Ding managed to lean over this red and take advantage of a King errorto run away. The Chinese remained focused by adding the frame with a break of 69. It was 3-0, Ding in favor of the best of nine match.

King pulled two frames back on either side of the break. After taking the fourth with a break of 85, the English veteran proved his ability by potting the green ball from distance in the fifth and would clear the rest of the colored ones. He cut the margin to one frame against Ding.

But Ding, with strong support in Beijing, did live up to the expectations this time around. He added the next two frames and closed out the match 5-2. The Chinese will face Mike Dunn in the semi-final.

Dunn makes first ranking tournament semi-final

Dunn, the dark horse at China Open continued his stunning performance by seeing off world number two Mark Selby. Selby’s errors made him pay after it was tied at three. Dunn didn’t let the chance slip away by wrapping up the victory 5-3 and advanced into the last four of a ranking tournament for the first time in his career.
