Panay Energy Development Corporation

Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) is a 164 MW Clean Coal Fired Power Plant situated at the heart of Iloilo City. A flagship project PEDC is the newest baseload power plant in the Island of Panay that uses state-of-the-art clean coal technology, generating electricity for the City. With the emergence of PEDC in the market, it has effectively reduced the cost of electricity by 1.80per kilowatt hour, and has successfully addressed the electric power shortfall in the Visayas region by supplying power from Bacolod in Negros to Boracay and Panay.

The PEDC plant utilizes the latest in the Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler technology which ensures practically negligible levels of emissions (95% and higher efficiency in removing sulfur dioxide and practically zero nitrogen oxide) and capture of total solid particles at 99.9% efficiency. PEDC’s power plant is in line with Global Power’s campaign for cleaner transitional technology to effectively address electric power shortfall in the Visayas region and the need for power reliability, stability and reasonably priced power while renewable energy sources are being strengthened and identified.

Considered to be a milestone endeavour, PEDC supplies power to the eight (8) electric cooperatives under the Panay-Guimaras Power Supply Consortium (PGPSC). These off-takers include: the Iloilo Electric Cooperatives (ILECO I, II and III), Capiz Electric Cooperative (CAPELCO), Antique Electric Cooperative (ANTECO) and the Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO), Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. (CENECO) and the Panay Electric Company Inc (PECO).

The PEDC project, is at present the largest investment in the island,  with the aim of propelling growth for the City and the Visayas region. The project further supports development initiatives in Iloilo City while heralding a new era for electric generation.
