For the first time in 2013, a brand new format saw all 128 players start in the same round at the Barbican, with up-and-coming potters taking on the top stars.

The likes of Mitchell Travis and John Astley caused major first round shocks, but in the end it was the top two players in the world rankings, Mark Selby and Neil Robertson, who met in the final.

Selby made a magical 147 in the semi-finals, the 100th maximum in snooker history, but it was Australia's Robertson who captured the trophy with a 10-7 victory in the final to become the first overseas player to complete snooker's Triple Crown.

World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said: "The new format was a success last year and it's fantastic news for the people of York that we have found a way to keep the tournament at the Barbican, which is such a tremendous venue for snooker.

"The players love coming to York and we have always received exceptional support from the local fans. Snooker is buzzing at the moment with every tournament producing exciting stories. Anyone who wants to see it live must get their tickets booked immediately then they can look forward to seeing the best in the world in action."
