After protesting the Vietnam War, John Kerry entered politics, running for Congress in the Fifth District of Massachusetts, but subsequently lost his first outing due in part to "Lowell Watergate" scandal involving his brother Cameron and an accomplice who were arrested by Lowell police for breaking into adjoining offices of Anthony R. DiFruscia. The charges against Cameron Kerry of "breaking and entering with the intent to commit grand larceny" were later dismissed. After Kerry's congressional defeat, he and his wife bought a house in Lowell and he entered Boston College Law School, went to work for a couple of humanitarian organizations, and eventually became a full-time prosecutor in the Middlesex County district attorney's office. Then in 1982 Kerry was elected lieutenant governor under Michael Dukakis.
