Huila — At least 30,640 children will be vaccinated against measles and polio in Bula-Matady Medical Center in Lubango, in the framework of the vaccination campaign against the disease, which runs from 22nd September to 5th October, around the country.

During a visit carried, Tuesday, by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), to investigate the difficulties faced by the region, the head of the center, Josefa Moniz said that most mothers do not comply with the schedule of vaccination campaigns and they only show up whenever there is a campaign.

"These people have the habit of adhering only to vaccination campaigns rather than comply with the schedule of vaccination of children, hence the importance of community workers in this cause," she said.

According to her, the lack of vaccination can lead to the child getting several dangerous diseases including severe malnutrition.

Measles is an infectious disease caused by "morbillivirus" virus and is one of the main responsible for infant mortality in Third World countries.
