Analog Time Ago

The majority of console games released before 1996 involved using a directional pad to control characters. The Nintendo 64's innovative gamepad, which featured an analog-based "thumbstick," helped change how players interacted with their on-screen alter egos. Sony quickly followed suit by introducing a controller for its PlayStation that featured two analog sticks. Yet the earliest game to use simultaneous analog control was 1983's Space Dungeon for the Atari 5200. Players could guide the ship with one controller while firing weapons with a second controller. Robotron: 2084 also supported dual controllers on the same system.
