Ding Junhui
Ding Junhui has lost twice against amateurs in the first round of ranking events this season, but he managed to avoid another surprise defeat by beating Jamie Clarke 5-1 as the German Masters qualifiers got underway in Wigan on Wednesday.

 

Ding, who had a brief spell as world number one last week before slipping behind Neil Robertson when the list was revised after the Lisbon Open, compiled breaks of 63, 86, 57 and 56 in a comfortable win.

 

Coral UK Championship runner-up Judd Trump eased to a 5-0 whitewash of Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon with a top run of 114 while Mark Allen came from 3-2 down to beat Robin Hull 5-3.

 

Shaun Murphy saw off Joe O'Connor 5-1 with a top run of 70 while Mark Williams beat Luca Brecel 5-4.

 

China's Li Hang impressed in a 5-4 win over Ricky Walden, scoring breaks of 115 and 103 in the last two frames. Former World Champion Graeme Dott lost 5-1 to Michael Georgiou.

 

Mark Davis edged out Daniel Wells 5-4, taking the deciding frame on a respotted black, while China's Tian Pengfei top scored with 91 in a 5-3 victory over Jimmy White.
