Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino is pushing for the inclusion of San Pedro City in the National Capital Region, and eventually become its 18th member city.

Tolentino wants to establish a Mega Manila in which San Pedro City will be included, being the nearest city of Laguna to Metro Manila.

Tolentino said that in the first meeting of the MMDA Council of mayors in January 2015, he will push for the inclusion of the city to the MMDA.

In a phone interview with Sonny Ordoña, Public Information Officer, he said San Pedro City has an urbanized environment and is described as “dormitory bank” where people go to work in Metro Manila and come back after work to rest.

Most of the people go to Metro Manila to work and come home only to rest,” Ordoña said. “Only on weekends that they stay in the city, so we have a highly urbanized people.”

Moreover, Ordoña welcomed the inclusion of San Pedro City as a member of MMDA considering the services it can provide, the capability to respond during disasters, its capacity to renew the city landscape and the transfer of knowledge on traffic management and environmental management.
