Ding Junhui becomes the first Chinese player to win the Snooker Masters

Ding Junhui (丁俊晖) shot his way into the world record books this week, becoming the first Chinese player to win the Snooker Masters, defeating Hong Kong’s Marco Fu 10 frames to 4.

The 23-year-old Ding, originally from Jiangsu Province, dominated the 33-year-old Fu from the start of the match.

Ding’s win didn’t come as a great surprise, a well-known player on the snooker circuit, Ding is a two-time UK Championships winner.

Already China's most successful player in the history of the sport before his win this week, Ding was the second teenager, after John Higgins, to win three ranking snooker titles.

In December 2006, Ding enrolled at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, but lives in England during the snooker season

Fu graciously accepted defeat to Ding rising snooker star saying, “It’s only a matter of time before he wins the world title.”

As for his own win, Ding told the BBC: "I think it's lucky. I'm very proud.
