The South Australian Film Corporation congratulates Chris Tugwell on being one of two inductees as Life Members of the Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG).  Chris was presented with his award at the 45th Annual Australian Writers’ Guild AWGIE Awards, held on Friday 24th August at Doltone House in Sydney as part of the golden 50-year anniversary of the AWG in 2012.

This Life Membership Award recognises the recipients work both within and outside the Australian Writer’s Guild and their contribution to the craft.  Chris Tugwell on receiving the award spoke of how humbled he was to be acknowledged by the Guild in this way and said he was “very touched to be recognised nationally, especially on the occasion of the Guild's 50th Anniversary, for what has mostly been work done in South Australia.

The Lifetime Membership Award was presented by fellow South Australian writer, Andrew Bovell, who gave a rundown of Chris’ history with the AWG and the industry.

“Chris was a member of the SA and NT branch of the AWG for 16 years and served as its Chair from 1996 – 2005.  He was a member of the National Executive Committee from 1992 – 1996.  He was a founding member of the Guild’s Collecting Society AWGACS from 1995 – 2007 and served as its Chair from 2004 – 2007.

But his service to writers extends beyond his work for the Guild to his roles as mentor, editor, and teacher.  Of particular note is the much valued course he ran for many years in Adelaide, Pictures on Paper and the recent publication of his book “Dinosaur Theory – Uncovering a New Approach to Screenwriting. The common theme in all of this service is his generosity to other writers.”
